Talking about mentor, I don’t think I have specific person I can consider as my mentor. My late Mum doesn’t count, she will always be my mentor for the rest of my life.
If I have to say who is my mentor,,, I have to admit that Spice Girls is my mentor.
Why this particular girl group? I have to thank them because they accompanied me during hard time. My parents divorced and although I have no problem in school, I still felt different than the other kids. In elementary school, I was blessed with lots of friends, good grades and actively involved in competitions representing schools. Yet I still felt something was missing.
That’s when the first time I saw this video.
All I could see was 5 girls running here and there. They looked so lively. Apparently not only me who fascinated about this group. My classmates also love the song and video. I asked my Mum to bought the album and she did. I listened to the album everyday.
I read the lyrics but didn’t understand back then. All I know, every time I listened to their songs, it felt so good. Years later, I realized how powerful their lyrics, encouraged girls to speak up and be confident of themselves. As a young girl who was going through tough time, I always felt they gave courage to do something I love. That I can do something good, not only for me but also other people.
You can argue me about them, I don’t care. Spice Girls will always be my hero…
*Prompt 15 April: Have you ever had a mentor? What was the greatest lesson you learned from him or her? Mentor Me
I’ve read many blogs and often inspired me to do something. Take traveling for example. I decided to do traveling after I read The Naked Traveler. The blog inspired me to explore new places, both Indonesia and outside Indonesia. However, there is one blog that makes me want to taste their adventure. The blog is Dua Ransel (Two Backpaks).
The owner of this awesome travel blog is husband and wife named Ryan and Dina. They traded the comfortable and steady life to became digital nomads since 2009. Yes, they literally backpacking to more than 40 countries! In each countries, they will share stories about their lives. Where they stay, how they work and of course tips to travel.
The life of the young couple really exciting! I want to experience their lives and write it in a blog post. Yes, I want to switch with them for a week. I imagine lots of things to see, listen and feel. Try new places and meet new friends. Most of all, by traveling I believe I rediscover myself, about what can I do.
Oh I do hope I can meet them in person hehehe.
*Prompt 6 April: If you could switch blogs with any blogger for a week, with whom would you switch and why? Switcheroo
Not only brand can have a tagline. We can have a tagline, too. One word or one sentence that perfectly describe your life.
I listened to a song from Mel C called Northern Star, few years ago. I do have serious obsession towards Spice Girls and its member. My favorite member until now is Mel C. When she released an album, I definitely buy it. This one song is really meaningful to me.
There are words that gave me great impact to my life. The words are
Live your life without regret. Don’t be someone who they forget.
For me, the words tell us not to waste our life. Make sure that in everything you do, you never regret in later days. Make name to yourself. Not with bad things, but with positive attitude. Make sure people remember us with good memories, not the bad one.
For me, the words kinda change my life. The first time I heard the song, I kinda struggle as a teenager. My parents divorced and as the teenager, I don’t know what to do. I think I was too damn serious about my life that period. These words, reminds me to live my life as cheerful teenager and also responsible one. Also, every action you do will have consequences to another people so be wise with your action.
The words, I put it to my personal email signature. Everyday I try to do the best I can and one day when I look back to my life, I can happily say “I have no regrets.”
*Prompt 31 March: Often, our blogs have taglines. But what if humans did, too? What would your tagline be? Tagline
This year I will enter my 30s. Unlike other women, I’m really excited to turn 30 years. Looking back to my life, I’m lucky to experience many things. Joy, sad, tears, laugh, births and deaths. I guess everyone also experience these.
Witnessing some sad events in my youth really changed how I live. I decided to live my life to the fullest and go with the flow. It doesn’t mean I put my life by fate. That’s not the way I go with the flow.
As you know, the water flows according to the shape off the rivers. For me, I make the path, I form the shape. That means, I set up goals of my life and work towards that goals. That’s what I mean with go with the flow. It can be work other way around.
When I want to reach my goal, I also follow the example that other people has made. I just put their shape to my own shape and work on it. A bit improvise. We need it sometimes, right?
I also want to enjoy my life to the fullest. I think, being someone who is not married yet gives me few advantage to this. For example, a time to explore. I love to discover new things. New books, new movies, new activities, and of course new places. Even my grandmother said I should live my life while I’m not married. In short, being selfish before you share your life with your spouse.
That’s my code, for now. I live by this code almost half of my life.
*Prompt 27 March: Have you got a code you live by? What are the principles or set of values you actively apply in your life? I Walk the Line
This is a question that easy to answer. If I want a writer to write my biography, I definitely say JK Rowling. Simple reasons:
- I LOVE Harry Potter series. Even when the story ends, I still read the book all over again.
- I like how JK Rowling describe things or situation. Very detail but not boring at all. I can imagine it only from her words.
- Her story similar to my Mum’s story. A single parent who tried her best to give her children a better life.
Everybody have a desire to share, including me. Each person has their own story and probably we can learn something from their story. It will be such an honor if JK Rowling can tell my story. It doesn’t have to be a book. If it’s only an excerpt appears in one of her chapter it would be great. Knowing that my stories can be inspiration to her, I’m really grateful. Who knows, probably my stories can be inspiration for another person.
*Prompt 23 March: If you could have any author –living or dead – write your biography, who would you choose? Ghostwriter
As a curvy girl (no I’m not fat!), so hard for me to find clothes in my size. Often times, I like the style, but I can’t find my own size. Sometimes sad, but what can I do? Fashion industry sometimes can be discriminating to a girl with big size.
Since 2011, I found various online shop in Facebook that sell clothes in big size. Last year, I found that lots of blogger for big size fashion. Including Marie Denee.
In her blog, Marie shares lots on info about new fashion items, featured fellow big size fashion bloggers, and also opinion from men about big size women. All I can say, full package! I found various models of clothes and dresses that I can applied to my body.
Marie also give photo challenge, which I participated once. Fun challenge actually. For whole month, I posted pictures in Instagram in order to finish the challenge. My favorite in the blog, of course her writings.
From her writings, I can feel her independence and confident. She’s not afraid to express herself and make a statement through style. Marie break the stereotype of big size women. Being fashionable is the right of every women, including those with big size like me.
Thanks to her, I’m not afraid to explore new style that suits me. I know, I need to write this in her style. No matter how hard I try, I can’t capture her writing style. She’s too stylish and fashionable for me hehehe. Not to mention, witty 🙂
I love you, Marie Denee!
