My First Tattoo

It took me 5 years to finally got what I want to make as my lifetime tattoo. I chose Mandala as my first tattoo. I used black ink because I don’t want to spoil the beauty of the design with fancy colors. I want to keep it simple because the design itself already look very grand. The meaning of the tattoo is:

The mandala, while in design is dominated by squares or triangles, has a concentric structure and actually translates to “circle” in Sanskrit.  These symbols offer visual elements that balance and represent harmony and unity. The mandala is extremely versatile and can carry a number of meanings that are limited only by the creator and the observer. The overall goal of a mandala is to be a tool on one’s spiritual journey.

The mandala’s design is meant to be not only appealing visually, but to absorb the mind in a way that silences chattering thoughts and allows the observer to gain a higher level of awareness.

Mandalas are designed from the center outwards, which tends to give them a floral appearance. Because flowers are typically circular in nature, circles and flowers can be combined to create a tattoo that is symbolic of femininity, eternity and balance.

Mandala artwork is a large part of Buddhist and Hindu religions. These designs are often depicted in sand art. Due to their geometric nature, tattoos containing mandalas look best on a flatter section of the body, such as the chest or back.

Each person who observes a mandala will have a different experience, but meditating on this symbol is said to make the observer relaxed and gives them a resolution or clarity on their intention.

Mandalas have been used in almost every religion. They may be given a different name and meaning, but the basic definition remains- that they are circular, spiritual works of art. Due to this, mandala tattoos are a great choice for someone who lives a deep, spiritual life. (source from here)

I don’t want to talk about my decision to chose Mandala as my tattoo. I want to talk WHY I decided to make a tattoo. I have to thank my late Mum because she gave me the permission. Mum worked abroad since 2007 and she came back for leave on 2010. When she came back, of course me and my Mum were having a “girls talk”. The she made a confession.

She opened up her shirt and revealed small tattoo on her left chest. It was letter “R” as the first letter of her name. Then I tentatively asked can I get one. She just nodded and said, “If you can hold the pain, yes you can. Make sure you found the meaningful one because it will attach to your body forever.”

Okay, I got her permission. So I started to looking a design that will be my first tattoo. It took me a while before I found this Mandala design. Too bad my Mum wasn’t with me when I made it. Well she can watch me getting tattoo from Heaven, right? She saw how I can handle the pain of the needle during the process. Yeah I was cursing in low voice but I managed to keep still until the tattoo finished.

Without her permission, I don’t think that I will make the tattoo. When I read the meaning once again,,, yeah I think I found the perfect tattoo for me.

Weekly Photo Challenge: On The Way

It was back in January 2015. I was in Bali and on my way to Ubud from airport. Then there’s a traffic jam. All vehicles stopped. I was a bit worried about my schedule. I asked the driver what’s going on, then I heard of traditional music was playing. The driver replied, “I think there will be Ngaben ceremony.”

Ngaben is a cremation ritual from Bali. If someone died, people in Bali usually will held this ceremony. After 10 minutes of waiting, the group finally passed my car. According to my driver, judging by coffin probably someone prominent passed away.

Wish I can watch the ritual. In Bali, this ritual is a serious business. Few years ago, one of the royal families in Bali hold Ngaben ceremony and it took one month preparation, probably longer. I want to go back to Bali hehehe.

No Pet for Me

Am I animal lover? Well, at least I never throw a stone to stray cats or dogs. I let them enjoy their life in peace.

Am I a pet owner? Nope. I don’t have a pet and I don’t think pet is for me. I once a pet owner. One accident made me a bit trauma having a pet.

I once have two adorable hamsters. My friend gave them to me. My Mum called them Hamham and Taro. We didn’t know which one is male or female. We love them so much and fed them every day. Until one day, one of the hamster stop eating much and went to sleep almost whole day. It was Taro.

Me and my family kinda worried, what happen to Taro. We saw Taro still eating, so we keep gave them food. Until one day, I woke up with a big surprise. It was ordinary Sunday morning when I woke up. I saw Mum and my brother circling the cage. I asked them what’s going on.

“Taro gave birth!” said my Mum. I rushed and sat to her side and looking for the little hamster. There was none. “Where’s the baby?” I asked.

This time my brother answered my question, “Hamham ate them all!”

His answer made me almost passed out. Then my brother explained how he knew Taro gave birth and how Hamham ate the babies. That explanation really made my whole family sad. The most tragic thing, few days later Hamham and Taro escaped from their cage. Don’t ask how.

Since then, I declare that I’m not fit as a pet owner. No, Sir!

Would You Barter?

Would you barter? How about all transaction we know is only barter? How you determine the value of the things you will trade? I’m sucks in Economy subject when I was in high school. Now I have to write about this???

I don’t think barter will suit me. I mean, judging by the value of the things… It can be decrease in the matter of time. The only thing that constant, in my opinion, is gold. Not everybody has gold, right? Beside, how do I know to get item A, how many item B I should prepare? That will be another headache.

Barter system is the earliest way of trade in humankind. It created the base of trading system we know now. I kinda curious how people determine the value of things and what to trade. More important, how many items to trade for getting the specific item ya…

*Prompt 26 April: If the world worked on a barter system, how would you fare? Would you have services to barter? Would you be successful, or would you struggle? Barter System

My Own Blurb

I suppose to write a blurb for my own book. This is where I stuck. First, I don’t know what kind of story I will make. Second, I also suck in summarize things. Okay, here we go!

Emily Wood was just an ordinary girl from little town called Wakespring. She decided to leave her home and pursuit her country singing dream to big city Nashville. Things weren’t going like Emily’s thought. When she almost gave up her dream, Jonathan Big came. Soon, both of them became lovers. However, there was one thing Emily didn’t know about Jonathan’s past and Jonathan will make sure no one knows about it. Including Emily…

There goes my blurb. Why I wrote this? I have no idea. It just popped up in my mind.

*Prompt 25 April: Write the blurb for the book jacket of the book you’d write, if only you had the time and inclination. BYOB(ookworm)

Choosy Spicy

I have Minang tribe in my blood. Minang is one of the tribe in Indonesia that have delicious foods. Rendang was voted as the most delicious food in the world and often served in big occasions of Minang people. Mostly Minang foods contains chili, red and green, and totally spicy. The taste is the combinations between chili and spices ingredients, and the taste was,,, WOW!

However, I don’t like spicy foods. Since I was a little girl, I don’t like chili taste in my foods. The habit last until high school. That was the time I was trying to put some chili, we called it sambal, in my foods. The reason was simple, my friends challenged me. Yeah, I was cheap back then because the bet was he would pay for my food hehehe.

Since then, I put sambal in my food in any chance. Not every food I eat with sambal. I’m totally choosy. I like sambal made by Mum and Grandmum. In restaurant, I’m a picky person. The decision of putting sambal based on the taste and the appearance. Kinda hard to explain it in words. Right now I don’t have the pictures of sambal I like and sambal I don’t like. It’s all about instinct hehehe.

If I have to choose, I’d rather have my food free from sambal! It’s my nature, yet I have to compromise with taste sometimes hehehe.

*Prompt 24 April: Do you love hot and spicy foods or do you avoid them for fear of what tomorrow might bring? Ring of Fire
